Rules governing equal pay for men and women

The Transparency in Wage Structures Act (EntgTranspG) entered into force on 6 July 2017.

The aim is to support women (and men) in better asserting their right to equal pay for equal work or work of equal value. The unadjusted gender pay gap in Germany is 18% (2021). Beyond active working life, the gender pay gap leads, on average, to lower pensions for women compared with men (gender pension gap [49%, 2019 Source: Gleichstellungsatlas [Equality Atlas]).
