If you have moved to another registration district, you must re-register your vehicle immediately. If you would like to keep the previous number plate on your registered vehicle, you can do this throughout Germany. The change of address will then only be made in your vehicle documents (registration certificate part I). If you do not wish to make use of the number plate transfer, you still have the option of applying for a new number plate. There will be an additional charge for a personalised number plate. You must re-register your vehicle without delay at the local registration office in whose district you have your: Main residence, place of business or your place of business. If you move within the administrative district, you do not have to re-register your vehicle. If new license plates are applied for: The application will be checked by a clerk. You will receive the registration notice, the fee notice, the registration certificates Parts I and II, the stamp sticker holder and the sticker holder for the main inspection (HU) to be affixed to the licence plate by post from the registration authority.
