Shipping: Determination of fitness for sea service and certificate of service

The Employers' Liability Insurance Association for Transport and The Transport Industry (Berufsgenossenschaft für Transport und Verkehrswirtschaft) determines the fitness for sea service and also issues the service certificate.

Since 1 August 2013, the issuance of maritime books and sampling procedures has ceased to exist due to the entry into force of the new Maritime Labour Act. The Seamen's Act of 1957 is thus repealed.

From now on, the declaration of fitness for sea service replaces the model, the service certificate the seafaring book.
Specimen notices and nautical records issued before 1 August 2013 shall remain valid.
