Pathogens: commercial handling - display of the recording/change notification

Activities with pathogens must be reported to the health authority.

Anyone who wants to work with pathogens for the first time, store them, dispense them or export them must notify the competent authority. If the notification of the activity with pathogens has already been laid down in another procedure regulated by federal law, reference can be made to the documents submitted there.

All activities involving pathogens must be notified to the competent authority, regardless of whether they are exempt from authorisation or subject to authorisation.

The competent authority shall also be notified of any substantial change:

  • the nature and scope of the activity,
  • the nature of rooms and facilities, and
  • concern the disposal measures.

The termination or resumption of activity must also be indicated.

The display must contain:

  • information on the nature and scope of the activities envisaged,
  • information on the disposal measures,
  • information on the nature of the rooms and facilities,
  • in the case of activities requiring authorisation: a certified copy of the licence (unless the licence has been issued by the competent authority),
  • in the case of activities without a permit: information on the freedom of authorisation.

Informal application

If there is a risk to the health of the population, the competent authority shall prohibit the commencement of activity with pathogens. This is particularly the case if there are no suitable rooms or facilities for the activities or if the conditions for safe disposal are not met.
