Pest control includes chemical, physical or biological measures that serve to control pests (for example, animals or microorganisms).

This is important, among other things, in the food sector. According to § 3 of the Food Hygiene Ordinance, food may not be exposed to any adverse influence, for example by microorganisms or animal pests. It is the responsibility of the operator producing, transporting or storing food to ensure appropriate pest control. On request, the competent authority shall be provided with pest control documents in the context of food control.
