Car: Workshop card

Workshops require a workshop card to install and calibrate digital control equipment. These must be applied for at the district/district-free city.

Since 1 May 2006, vehicles must be equipped with digital recording equipment (driver card) instead of a tachograph.
Workshops require a workshop card to install and calibrate the digital recording equipment.

The workshop card must contain the following information:


  • name of the workshop,
  • Address of the workshop,
  • surname/first name of the holder,
  • Period of validity.

Driver, workshop and company cards are issued on request.

  • Proof of business registration,
  • Current recognition or commissioning of the workshop according to § 57 b Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StvZO),
  • Identity card or passport with confirmation of registration of the applicant or the authorised representative (if necessary power of representation),
  • Identity card or passport with confirmation of registration from the responsible specialist,
  • Proof of training of the responsible specialist and
  • Proof of the existing employment relationship with the responsible specialist.
