Burial Unfortunately this specification of service has not yet been completely translated.

Information on, among other things, the funeral obligation, funeral period and possible fees.

The funeral is generally possible at the earliest 48 hours after the onset of death. Bodies are to be buried or cremated within nine days of the onset of death. Urns should be buried within one month of cremation.

Stillborns from 500 grams are also considered corpses.

In the event of death, any person who finds a corpse or in whose presence a person dies has the duty to inform a doctor immediately. The latter carries out the post-mortem examination and issues a death certificate, which must be sent immediately to the registry office.

The following are obliged to bury in this order: spouse or registered life partner, children, parents, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren.

Corpses and urns must always be buried in a cemetery, unless a sea burial is carried out.

If you are not able to bear the funeral costs under certain circumstances, you can apply for reimbursement of costs in accordance with § 74 of the Social Code (SGB) Twelfth Book (XII) - Social assistance in the context of assistance in other situations (social assistance) - Funeral costs.
