Vocational schools and regional vocational training centres
They impart basic and/or specialist knowledge for professions or a specific occupational field and enable the acquisition of all school leaving certificates. Vocational schools provide education and training in vocational and study-qualifying courses.
The diverse educational offer of the vocational schools and regional vocational training centres provides the necessary basic and/or specialist education for a specific profession or occupational field and, depending on the individual previous education and ability, enables the acquisition of all school leaving certificates: first general school leaving certificate, intermediate school leaving certificate, technical college entrance qualification, subject-specific and general higher education entrance qualification.
Young people and young adults with and without a school leaving certificate who want to make an entry into professional life or acquire a school leaving certificate or a higher-quality school leaving certificate are offered six types of school at the vocational schools in Schleswig-Holstein:
Within the framework of dual vocational training, the vocational school, together with the training companies, provides vocational training in a state-recognised training occupation and expands general education. With the completion of the vocational school, the first general school leaving certificate, the intermediate school leaving certificate or the Fachhochschulreife can be acquired.
Special classes are formed for young people who have not found a training place. The preparatory year prepares young people in various occupational fields such as business and administration or technology for vocational training or the start of a professional activity. The course may include qualification modules. The acquisition of the first general school leaving certificate is possible.
A comparable educational offer are the vocational preparation measures of the Federal Employment Agency with accompanying vocational school lessons, which are carried out by educational institutions, such as youth development agencies.
In vocational entrance classes, young people who are required to attend vocational school and who do not attend any of the above-mentioned vocational school courses are schooled.
There are three types of schools with different objectives:
- The vocational school according to § 1 Abs. 1 Berufsfachschulverordnung (Type I) provides basic vocational qualifications and vocational orientation in certain disciplines. With the completion of the two-year vocational school, the Mittlere Schulabschluss is acquired.
