Lost property

Anyone who has found an object of value with a value of more than 10.00 euros must hand it in to the lost property office.

If you have found an object of value (i.e. with a value of more than 10.00 euros), you must hand it in. You are even obliged to do so under the German Civil Code (BGB). A find display is recorded. The lost property, the place of discovery and the time of discovery as well as their personal details are recorded.

The lost property office is obliged to keep lost property for at least six months. If the owner does not contact us within this time, you as the finder are entitled to the item found. If this right is not exercised by you or if the lost property is found in public buildings or means of transport, the city or municipality itself becomes the owner of the property.

These lost property will then be auctioned off publicly at longer intervals after prior notice by the lost property office. The proceeds of the auction flow into the budget of the municipality.
