Waste charges

Fees/usage fees are charged for the use of public waste disposal facilities.

For the use of public facilities for waste disposal, the public waste disposal providers (districts, independent cities or special purpose associations) charge fees or private-law usage fees to cover the associated costs. In some cases, the fees are collected by the commissioned waste management companies.

The expenses to be covered by the waste fee include, in particular, the costs for:

  • collecting, transporting and disposing of waste from households and disposal waste from commercial enterprises, other economic enterprises or public institutions,
  • the marketing of recyclable materials,
  • waste advice,
  • Planning, construction, operation, aftercare, recultivation and renaturation of waste recycling and waste disposal facilities and
  • the creation of reserves for the foreseeable subsequent costs of decommissioning and aftercare of waste recovery and disposal facilities.

The fee scale is intended to create effective incentives for avoidance and exploitation.
