Domestic slaughter is a slaughter outside commercial slaughterhouses for one's own domestic consumption. The prerequisite is that the person who slaughters the animals has the necessary knowledge and skills. In the case of domestic slaughter, ungulates kept as domestic animals or farm game are subject to official ante-mortem and meat inspection. Pigs, horses or other ungulates which may be carriers of Trichinella shall be declared for official testing for Trichinella. The production of meat for other persons is a commercial activity and may only be carried out in compliance with the standards of European and national food hygiene law.
