Large-capacity transport/heavy-duty transport: permit/exemption permit

Heavy-duty or large-capacity transports require a permit or exemption permit.

Traffic on public roads with vehicles and trains whose dimensions, axle loads or total weights (including loads) actually exceed the generally permitted limits requires a special permit in accordance with § 29 (3) of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) or an exemption permit in accordance with § 46 (1) no. 5 StVO.

For vehicles/vehicle combinations that exceed the legal limits, an exemption permit according to § 70 StVZO is also required.

  • Completed application form with justification,
  • Documents relating to the vehicle/combination including cargo.

Permits/exemptions must be applied for in writing - in good time before the start of a transport .
The decision shall be taken after consultation of all the authorities to be involved.

The more detailed details on the granting of permits and exemptions can be found in the administrative regulations on § 29 para. 3 StVO or § 46 para. 1 no. 5 StVO.

An application is also possible in an electronic approval procedure - Procedure Management for Large And Heavy Transports (VEMAGS  ). In these proceedings, you as a party to the proceedings can inform yourself at any time about the status of the proceedings.
