Soundproofing

Sound insulation means protection against noise, including street and neighbourhood noise.

Sound insulation means protection against noise, including street and neighbourhood noise. House and apartment owners can take various sound insulation measures. One possible measure is passive noise protection on federal trunk and state roads.

Passive sound insulation measures are improvements to enclosure components (in particular windows, doors, roller shutter boxes, walls and roofs) of rooms in need of protection, which reduce the effects of traffic noise.

Reimbursements are possible for expenses incurred for necessary passive noise protection measures on structural installations, provided that the calculated assessment level on the structural installation exceeds the relevant immission limit value during the day (applies to living quarters) or at night (applies to bedrooms).

In the case of the construction or modification of roads, the claims for the affected buildings are indicated in the planning documents (noise prevention).

In the case of voluntary noise protection measures (noise remediation), the calculations carried out by the road construction administration form the basis for compensation.

As different documents may be required, it is recommended to contact the competent authority in this regard.

Hints

In the case of voluntary noise abatement, the owner has to bear 25% of the costs for passive noise protection himself.

Further information on the subject of noise can also be found on the websites of the Federal Environment Agency and the State Government of Schleswig-Holstein.
