Animals: Stunning-free slaughter "shafts" - permit

If you want to slaughter animals without stunning, you need a permit.

For stunning-free slaughter ("shafting") for religious reasons, an exemption permit is required.
Prerequisites are that

  • that stunned-free slaughter is necessary for the observance of religious rites or dietary regulations,
  • the persons carrying out the necessary expertise possess, and
  • the slaughterhouse meets the legal requirements.

The written application for shafting must contain the following information:

  • the name and address of the applicant,
  • the name and address and information on the expertise of the persons carrying out the slaughter,
  • information on the group of persons for whom the slaughter is to be carried out (e.g. religious communities, individuals),
  • Description of the religious regulations for shafting,
  • the type and number of animals to be slaughtered,
  • Shafting period,
  • place of slaughter,
  • devices used for shafting,
  • whereabouts of the meat,
  • Declaration that the meat is only given to persons who must comply with mandatory religious regulations for shafting,
  • Description of the religiously prescribed slaughter process and
  • Information on how animal welfare regulations are complied with during the slaughter process.
