Health insurance supervision

The state legal supervision of the statutory health insurance funds lies with the Federal Office for Social Security.

The statutory health insurance funds are subject to state legal supervision.

The Federal Office for Social Security supervises the statutory health insurance funds directly on the federal level. The health insurance funds, whose field of activity extends over more than three federal states, are directly connected to the federal government. Health insurance companies whose field of activity is limited to up to three federal states are subject to the respective state supervision.

Further information on the topics of health care, health and long-term care insurance as well as contact persons for complaints about statutory health insurance can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry of Health.
