Determining the monument characteristics of a building

The inventory, i.e. the preservation of monuments and thus the determination of the monument status of a building, forms the indispensable basis for the work of the preservation of monuments and the preservation of a cultural monument.

The objects or entire facilities, the monument value of which is to be checked on request by the Monuments Authority, should be built before 1990 and should have demonstrably architectural and/or urban qualities and historical or scientific significance. Requests may concern installations of various kinds. Examples include: Buildings of all kinds and functions, historic green spaces, urban districts, Town centres, Hydraulic engineering systems, technical installations, military objects and installation, etc. .m.

The heritage authority operates as an independent specialist authority of the state on the legal basis of the Rhineland-Palatinate Monument Protection Act. Within the Monument Department / State Monument Preservation, the preservation of monuments is the responsibility of the Department of Inventory.
Receipt of a request for examination of the value of monuments (with regard to a possible deletion, re-registration or change of the existing protection status) by e-mail or letter to the monument authority Initiation of an investigation procedure for the review and clarification of the monument value by the monument authority. This includes the views of the photos, data and documents, literature Implementation of a monument commission with the participation of the scientific staff from the Department of Inventory as well as responsible/area officer in the practical preservation of monuments with specialist discussion and subsequent monument decision Written information on the result of the review of the monument value to the responsible Lower Monument Protection Authority by mail /letter as well as the applicant The foundation of the monument also initiates the procedure for registration in the list of monuments and the production of behaviour (consultation of the municipality) The manufacturing of behaviour is handled by the responsible Lower Monument Protection Authority After completion of the manufacture of the behaviour (at the latest after 6 months), the cultural monument will be included in the list of monuments by the monument authority The updated list of monuments will be forwarded to the responsible Lower Monument Protection Authority and posted on the homepage of the Directorate for the Preservation of National Monuments
