Determining the characteristics of a building as a monument
The inventory, i.e. the registration of monuments and thus the determination of the monument status of a building forms the indispensable basis for the work of monument preservation and the preservation of a cultural monument.

The objects or complete facilities whose monument value is to be checked by the monument authority on request should be built before 1990 and demonstrably have architectural and/or urban planning qualities and historical or scientific significance. Requests may concern installations of various kinds. Examples include: Buildings of any type and function, historic green areas, urban quarters, Town centres, Hydraulic engineering facilities, technical installations, military objects and facilities and much more.m.
The Monument Authority acts as an independent specialist authority of the state on the legal basis of the Rhineland-Palatinate Monument Protection Act. Within the monument authority / state monument preservation, the inventory of monuments is responsible for the inventory department.
Receipt of a request for examination of the monument value (with regard to a possible deletion, new registration or change of the existing protection status) by e-mail or letter to the monument authority Initiation of an examination procedure for the review and clarification of the monument value by the monument authority. Applicants and the Lower Monument Protection Authority will be informed in writing. In the case of already protected cultural monuments, internal search for available, archived data and documents on the object If necessary, arrange a site visit via the responsible Lower Monument Protection Authority for inspection and on-site discussions As soon as the test case is stored with sufficient knowledge of the object as well as analogue and digital documents and data: Systematic preparation of the inquiry/test case for the discussion of the department. This includes the view of photos, data and documents, literature Implementation of a monument commission with the participation of the scientific staff from the Department of Inventory as well as the responsible area officer of the Practical Monument Preservation with expert discussion and subsequent monument decision Written information about the result of the review of the monument value to the responsible Lower Monument Protection Authority by e-mail / letter as well as the applicant With the justification of the monument, the procedure for registration in the monument list and the establishment of conduct (consultation of the municipality) is also initiated. The production of behaviour is handled by the competent Lower Monument Protection Authority After completion of the establishment of conduct (but at the latest after 6 months), the cultural monument is included in the monument list by the monument authority The updated list of monuments will then be forwarded to the responsible Lower Monument Protection Authority and posted on the homepage of the Directorate of State Monument Conservation
