European elections Determine election results

At the end of the electoral act, the electoral board determines how many votes have been cast in the constituency on the individual election proposals. The electoral board appointed for postal voting determines how many votes cast by postal ballot are allocated to the individual election proposals. The district election and city election committees then determine how many votes have been cast in the districts and independent cities for the individual election proposals. They have the right to review the findings of the election boards. In the following, the Land Election Committees determine how many votes have been cast in the Länder for the individual election proposals. The State Election Committee is entitled to make arithmetical corrections to the findings of the election boards as well as the district and city election committees. Finally, the Federal Electoral Committee determines how many votes have been cast for the individual election proposals in total, how many seats are allocated to the individual election proposals and which candidates have been elected. The Federal Electoral Committee is entitled to make accounting corrections to the findings of the Land Election Committees.

Preconditions
A prerequisite for the determination of the election result are the determinations of the lower levels (municipality, district, city, country).
The result of the European elections is as follows: As soon as the election result is determined in the electoral district, the election officer reports it to the district or city returning officer. If a municipality belonging to the district is divided into several electoral districts, the electoral officer shall report the election result of his constituency to the municipal authority, which shall summarise the election results of all constituencies of the municipality and report them to the district returning officer. The district returning officer determines the provisional election result in the district after the quick reports. According to the rapid reports, the city returning officer determines the provisional election result in the district-free city. Taking into account the results of the postal vote, the district and city returning officers shall communicate the provisional election results to the Land Returning Officer as soon as possible. The Land Returning Officer shall report the incoming district and city election results to the Federal Returning Officer immediately and on an ongoing basis. The Federal Returning Officer determines the provisional election result in the electoral area on the basis of the rapid reports of the Land Returning Officers. After reporting by the Federal Returning Officer, the Federal Electoral Committee determines the overall result of the election. It determines how many votes have been cast for the individual nominations in total, how many seats are allocated to the individual nominations and which candidates have been elected.
