The task of the Department of Inventory is to record, describe, explore and justify the monuments. The artistic, architectural and historical significance as well as the topographical, urban or urban-historical contexts must be taken into account. For this purpose, the inventory uses various recording methods, the processing depth of which depends on their respective purpose.

The objects or entire facilities to be included in the list of monuments are checked beforehand by the monument authority for your monument value and property. The objects should be built before 1990 and have demonstrably architectural and/or urban qualities and historical or scientific significance. The enquiries may concern construction installations of various types and genera. Examples include: Buildings of all kinds and functions, historic green areas, urban districts, town centres, hydraulic engineering facilities, technical installations, military objects and facilities, etc.m.

The Heritage Authority operates as an independent specialist authority of the country on the legal basis of the RLP. Within the Monument Department / State Monument Preservation, the preservation of monuments is the responsibility of the Department of Inventory.
Receipt of a request for verification of the value of the monument by e-mail or letter to the monument authority Initiation of an investigation procedure for the review and clarification of the monument value by the monument authority. Applicants and the Lower Monument Protection Authority will be informed in writing. If necessary, arrange a local appointment via the competent Lower Monument Protection Authority for inspection and discussions on site As soon as the test case is stored with sufficient knowledge of the object as well as analogue and digital documents and data: Systematic preparation of the request/test case for the discussion of the department Implementation of a monument commission with the participation of the scientific staff from the Department of Inventory as well as responsible area officers in the practical preservation of monuments with expert discussion and subsequent monument decision Written information on the result of the review of the monument value to the responsible Lower Monument Protection Authority by mail /letter as well as the applicant The foundation of the monument also initiates the procedure for registration in the list of monuments and the production of behaviour (consultation of the municipality) The behaviour is manufactured by the competent Lower Monument Protection Authority After completion of the manufacture of the behaviour (at the latest after 6 months), the cultural monument will be included in the list of monuments by the monument authority The updated list of monuments will be forwarded to the responsible Lower Monument Protection Authority and posted on the homepage of the Directorate for the Preservation of National Monuments
