Driver's license issue new due to name change Unfortunately this specification of service has not yet been completely translated.

It is true that there is no legal regulation that the driving licence must be changed after a new surname has been adopted by marriage or other reasons. However, if it is not apparent in the identity card that the driver's licence holder once kept the name on the driving licence, a change is strongly advised. The same applies to a change of first name, date of birth or place of birth. A change of address is not entered in the driving licence and is therefore not to be reported.

  • Identity card or passport with current confirmation of registration

  • previous driving licence

  • current biometric-compatible photo, in passport format (45 x 35 mm) in portrait format, frontal shot without edge, without headgear and without covering the eyes

  • in case of name change by marriage: additionally certified copy of the marriage certificate, if the name has not yet been changed in the identity card

  • in case of name change by divorce: additional name change certificate from the registry office, if the name has not yet been changed in the identity card

  • additional, if necessary, a index card copy. A index card copy (list of the current driving licence data) can usually be requested by telephone from the competent authority which issued the driving licence.
