List of external engineers Registration

The professional title "engineer" is protected by the Lower Saxony Engineering Act (NIngG). If you have neither a residence nor a professional establishment in Germany and temporarily and occasionally carry out professional tasks of engineers within the meaning of § 2 NIngG in Lower Saxony, you may use the professional title "engineer" if you are entered in the list of external engineers. The provision of the service must be reported to the Chamber of Engineers.

If a year has passed since the last advertisement and you intend to continue to provide services in Lower Saxony and use the professional title "engineer", this must be reported to the Chamber of Engineers.

For entry in the list of external engineers, persons established in an EU, EEA or equivalent country must provide the following evidence:

Persons established in other countries must provide the following evidence for entry in the list of external engineers:

  • Proof of university degree
  • All documents in non-German must be accompanied by a translation, which must be confirmed by a publicly appointed and sworn translator
  • Reliability Statement

Please have all the necessary documents ready for the electronic display. Without the complete documents, you will not be able to complete the electronic notification procedure and send your advertisement.

Applications can be submitted at any time in writing or online to the Lower Saxony Chamber of Engineers.

Preconditions

For entry in the list of external engineers, the following conditions apply to persons established in an EU, EEA or equivalent country:

  • First display of the service
  • the reliability required for the profession

For entry in the list of external engineers, the following conditions apply to persons established in other countries:

  • Proof of professional qualification
  • No significant differences between the professional qualification obtained by a foreign engineering/university degree or a professional qualification that entitles you to practise the engineering profession in another European country and a domestic qualification that entitles you to use the professional title "engineer" (at least three years standard period of study, studies at least 70% characterized by mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology (MINT)).
  • An exception applies to the fields of agricultural and industrial engineering insofar as only a MINT share of at least 51% must be achieved.
  • the reliability required for the profession

Hints

If one year has passed since the last notification and the service provider intends to continue to provide services in Lower Saxony and to use the professional title "engineer", he or she must notify the Chamber of Engineers of this. If the situation certified in the documents submitted so far has changed significantly, the service provider must report this by presenting the corresponding documents.

An application for entry in the list of external engineers must be submitted in writing or online using the form provided. The evidence referred to under 'Required documents' shall be attached to the notification.
