Anyone wishing to pursue the profession as a psychotherapist/psychotherapist or child and adolescent psychotherapist in Germany requires a separate professional qualification: approval or a professional licence. Approval is the more comprehensive professional approval and is granted by the competent authority.

Preconditions

The approval is subject to various conditions, which are based on

  • successful degree in Germany or equivalent training abroad,

  • nationality as well as

  • personal and health suitability for the exercise of the profession.

Applying abroad in a health profession:

For the exercise of the profession of a psychological psychotherapist or a child and adolescent psychotherapist/child and adolescent psychotherapist abroad, a "Certificate of good standing" (future: Certificate of Current Professional Status) is usually required. This certificate is issued by the competent authority, provided that you last worked in Lower Saxony in your profession.
