Services provided through national emergency numbers, including 112 and 116 numbers

The emergency medical service on 112 provides professional, pre-clinical medical assistance for emergency patients. This service is organised and run by the federal states ( Länder ) and governed by state laws. The bulk of the funding comes from statutory health insurance.

By dialling 116117, insured individuals will reach the associations of statutory health insurance doctors ( Kassenärztlichen Vereinigungen ) and the scheduled appointment venues they offer. These offer insured individuals appointments at short notice in cases where short-term care is required beyond the scope of the emergency medical service.
