Apply for a child-raising pension Unfortunately this specification of service has not yet been completely translated.

If you are raising a child alone because your divorced partner has died, you may be able to get a child-rearing pension in many cases.

The child-raising pension supports you as a single parent if your divorced partner from a marriage or civil partnership dies. The pension thus serves as a substitute for maintenance and allows you to devote more time to raising your children.

The child-raising pension is a pension from your own pension account. The amount is the same as the pension you would receive if you were fully incapacitated. Your annual pension information will tell you what amount this is based on. If your pension starts before the age limit that applies to you, you will have to accept deductions that reduce your pension. For each month that you retire earlier, the deduction is 0.3 percent, up to a maximum of 10.8 percent in total.

If you receive an education pension, you can earn additional income. However, your income may be deducted if you exceed an allowance. The amount of this allowance is calculated on an individual basis.

You can also get a child-raising pension if you decided as a couple to share your pension rights (pension splitting).

You cannot receive a child-raising pension if you are receiving another, higher pension from the statutory pension insurance scheme at the same time.
