The Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media awards annual cinema programme prizes. The prize is awarded to cinemas with a culturally outstanding annual film programme.

Annual film programmes are outstanding if they

  • have a particularly high proportion of German and European films and
  • these films are of artistic quality.

Within the framework of the Cinema Programme Award, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) presents the following awards and prizes:

  • best annual film programme: EUR 20,000
  • other outstanding annual film programmes: EUR 15,000
  • outstanding annual film programme: EUR 10,000
  • particularly good annual film programmes: EUR 7,500
  • Special Award for Best Children's and Youth Film Programme: EUR 10,000
  • Special Award for Best Short Film Programme: EUR 10,000
  • Special Award for Best Documentary Film Programme: EUR 10,000
  • depending on the gradation:
    • Special Prize Children's and Youth Film: EUR 2,500 or EUR 5,000
    • Special Award Short Film: EUR 2,500 or EUR 5,000
    • Special Award Documentary Film: EUR 2,500 or EUR 5,000

Cinemas that receive financial support from the state for the application year cannot apply for the Cinema Programme Award. Unless the support received is so small that the cinema is not economically equivalent to a municipal cinema.

You may apply for more than one award. You submit your application to Department K 35 at the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).

Preconditions

Applications may be submitted by:

  • Owners of commercial and fixed cinemas in Germany.

Further requirements:

  • Your cinema must be able to prove at least 275 screenings
  • Your cinema must be able to prove at least 9 months of operation

You must submit your application for a Cinema Programme Award in writing to the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).

  • Download the application for the Cinema Programme Award and the template for the complete programme on the BKM website. Fill out the forms electronically. Print them out and sign them.
  • Send the forms by post to the Film Department K 35 at the BKM.
  • The jury for the Cinema Programme Award will deliberate on the submitted applications. The BKM decides on the award based on the jury's proposal.
  • The BKM announces the awards at an awards ceremony in the autumn.
  • If you receive an award, the Federal Office of Administration (BVA) takes over the payment of the award.
