Motor vehicle, description of a registered vehicle, i-kfz level 3

If a motor vehicle registered in Germany is to be used by another owner with permanent residence in Hamburg, it must be transferred to the new owner.

  • License plates with stamp stickers with hidden security codes

  • New identity card (nPA) or electronic residence permit (eAT) with activated online identity function (eID), as well as a designated card reader or an Android smartphone with NFC chip and free "AusweisApp2". The following requirements apply to the fully automated re-registration (re-registration) of a motor vehicle via the Internet:
  1. Electronic confirmation of insurance (eVB)
  2. Security codes approval certificate I and II (issued after 01/01/2015)
  3. If applicable, security codes identification (issued after 01/01/2015)
  4. Identity card, electronic residence permit or EU ID card with activated eID function
  5. Reader or mobile phone with NFC chip and AusweisApp2
  6. IBAN
  7. Credit card or GiroPay
  8. Valid general inspection (HU) or HU express code
  9. Valid Security Clearance (SP) or SP Express Code, if applicable
  10. If necessary, license plate reserved in advance (with reservation number)


The motor vehicle is deemed to be registered if the customer has received the documents by post, by two separate registered letters.
The motor vehicle may only be used after the customer has affixed the sticker to the license plate that he has procured himself.
Special license plates (electric, oldtimer, season, green license plate, change license plate, red license plate) are excluded from the online service.

  4. Enter security code for registration certificate Part I (7 digits).
  5. Confirm the process that a readmission is taking place.
  6. Select license plate (1st reserved license plate or 2nd license plate reserved when deregistering.
  7. Enter security code for registration certificate Part II.
  8. Enter the date of the next general inspection (HU).
  9. Enter proof of vehicle liability insurance (evB number) and SEPA direct debit mandate for collecting vehicle tax.
  10. Application data are automatically validated.
  11. Pay the fee using the ePayment system. The means of payment may vary depending on the responsible licensing authority.
  12. Confirm entries and application.
  13. The application is automatically checked in real time.
  14. Call up the confirmation of the description online immediately.
