Vehicle registration within Hamburg

Motor vehicles must always be registered where the main residence of the keeper is also subject to registration law. If you have your main residence in Hamburg, your newly acquired car must therefore also be registered in Hamburg.
A vehicle registration must be made immediately.
You can find out here how you can register your vehicle and what else you need to consider.
Admission to the same owner : If the same vehicle is to be admitted to the same owner, this is a re-admission. You can find all information about this under "Links".
The following documents must be available for admission:
  • a valid identity card or passport with current registration confirmation
  • the vehicle documents (registration certificate parts I and II) or a de-registration certificate
  • the electronic insurance confirmation as an eVB code (available from motor vehicle insurance)
  • the previous license plates if new license plates should or must be issued
  • a declaration of consent from all legal guardians in the case of minors / persons not fully legally competent
  • Proof of the valid general inspection (TÜV) and, if applicable, evidence of the safety inspection and emissions test carried out
  • a SEPA combined mandate in the original for the collection of vehicle tax by direct debit (the form can be found under Services and Links)
If the tax is not to be paid by the keeper himself, but by a so-called third party willing to pay, a copy of the ID of the third party willing to pay is required.
  • a right of disposal (e.g. purchase contract, certificate of inheritance, drafting contract) if the new owner has not yet been entered in the vehicle documents
  • the appointment confirmation

in addition, if an authorized representative submits the application on your behalf

  • the legibly completed power of attorney in the original with the legible color copy of the identity of the principal. Note: The color copy is to be provided with the note "COPY".
  • the authorized representative's ID in the original

Companies or associations must also submit the following documents:

  • proof of company / association (e.g. an extract from the commercial register or an extract from the association's register)

if an authorized representative makes the request

  • the legibly completed power of attorney in the original with the legible color copy of the ID of the person authorized to act. Note: The color copy is to be provided with the note "COPY".
  • the authorized representative's ID in the original

The vehicle can only be re-registered with the LBV if the main residence of the keeper under registration law is in Hamburg. A personal change of registration must have already taken place.
