Children's passport, first and new issue
Unfortunately this specification of service has not yet been completely translated.

  • All German children up to the age of 12 can receive a children's passport.
  • The children's passport has been issued since November 1st, 2007 up to the age of 12 at the most. It is valid for one year and can be extended by one year at a time up to the age of twelve.
  • At the request of the parents, passports or identity cards can also be issued for children under the age of 12.
  • To apply for and extend the validity of the child's passport, a joint application by the custodians is required.
  • The signature must be provided by the child if they have reached the age of ten at the time of the application.
Basically:
  • All necessary documents must always be submitted in the original or as a certified copy.
  • 1 biometrically readable passport photo from the latest time (35x45 mm without border, background light and monochrome. Sample - see link Federal Ministry of the Interior).
  • Identity cards or passports of both parents.
  • Presence of the child
  • Personal interview with the child with at least one legal guardian / legal representative. In the case of parents who are permanently separated, only the parent with whom the child is registered may apply for the passport.
  • Declaration of consent with the signature of the legal guardian who is not present when the application is made in the resident customer center.
  • In the case of sole custody / joint custody of unmarried parents: proof of custody, e.g. decision on custody, declaration of custody and the like.

ADDITIONALLY for:

  • First issue: birth or parentage certificate of the child
  • Reissue: birth or parentage certificate of the child, previous child's passport

Preconditions

  • Child under 12 years of age with German citizenship.
  • Personal interview with the child with at least one legal guardian / legal representative. In the case of parents who are permanently separated (longer than a year), only the parent with whom the child is registered may apply for the passport.
  • The child is registered with their main residence in Hamburg.
