Free schools (private schools) Unfortunately this specification of service has not yet been completely translated.

Free schools is the official name for private schools. They expand the provision of free school choice and can promote the school system through special content and forms of education and teaching. They are distinguished in supplementary and substitute schools. Supplementary schools are characterised by a range of courses which do not exist in the public school system. Accordingly, their fields of work are mostly in vocational education and training: they offer training courses in the fields of cosmetics, health or communication, for example. Other supplementary schools, such as international schools, prepare their pupils for foreign educational qualifications. Replacement schools offer educational opportunities such as public schools (e.g. private primary schools, private grammar schools under church sponsorship) and thus replace public education with private ones. They need a permit before they can be financially supported by the state of Hesse and benefit from the freedom to learn.
