Marriage: Registration for marriage Unfortunately this specification of service has not yet been completely translated.

The official part of the path to marriage consists of three steps. For more information: see under procedure.

Preconditions
The registration for the marriage takes place in the registry office of the place of residence. If the spouses have different places of residence, the registration of the marriage is optionally possible in one of the registry offices. The city of Bremen has two registry office districts. For this reason, those marrying in Bremen-Mitte must register at the Bremen-Mitte registry office, while those marrying in Bremen-Nord must register at the Bremen-Nord registry office. The marriage can take place in every registry office in the federal territory.

Hints
Payment of fees is possible in cash and by EC card (with PIN).
Step 1: Pre-registration Use the option of online pre-registration (see "Online processing") It shortens the processing time. The registry office receives the data you have provided via online pre-registration and can then provide you with information about the documents required. This information will be sent to you by e-mail and should reach you within a week at the latest. Please be patient and refrain from making inquiries about the status of your application. If you have not received a reply after one week, please contact ehe@inneres.bremen.de. After that the registration for the marriage can take place after previous appointment arrangement. If you do not wish to or cannot use the online pre-registration, the relevant information will be provided during opening hours in the registry offices (see "Responsible offices" below). For this preliminary talk, it is initially sufficient if it is attended by one of the future spouses. In the case of foreign citizenship, the respective state law/foreign law must be observed. The same applies if you were born abroad and in the case of previous marriages and/or their annulment abroad. Unfortunately, the online pre-registration cannot be used in these cases. Please contact your local registry office during opening hours. Step 2: Registering your marriage The registration of the marriage is only possible after making an appointment with the registry office. When registering the marriage, the documents to be submitted will be checked. You will receive information, for example, about the use of the name and the procedure for the day of the marriage. As soon as it is determined that the requirements for marriage are fulfilled, the registration of marriage is valid for 6 months. In principle, the date for registering the marriage should be attended by both partners. If one of the partners is prevented from attending, he/she can issue a power of attorney (declaration of accession). You can find the form in the forms under "declaration of accession". Step 3: Marriage There are two wedding rooms available for marriages in the historic building of the Bremen-Mitte registry office. In the registry office Bremen-North the weddings take place in the wedding room in the town house on the staggered floor above the roofs of Bremen-North in the Gerhard-Rohlfs-Straße. For marriages in the two registry office districts you can also choose an external wedding location: For the registry office Bremen-Mitte botanika- The Green Science Center ( http://www.botanika-bremen.de/de/heiraten.html ) Fallturm- ZARM- Betriebsgesellschaft- mbH ( https://www.zarm.uni-bremen.de/visit/wedding-ceremonies.html ) Lür-Kropp-Hof and Hochtiedshuus ( http://www.luer-kropp-hof.de/hochtiedshuus.html ) Motor yacht Nedeva ( http://www.luer-kropp-hof.de/nedeva.html ) Bremen City Hall ( http://www.rathaus.bremen.de/buergerservice/heiraten_im_rathaus-1583 ) For the registry office Bremen- North Blomendal Castle ( http://www.burgblomendal.de/index.php ) Schönebeck Castle ( http://www.museum-schloss-schoenebeck.de/?Heiraten_im_Schloss ) Schulschiff Deutschland ( http://www.schulschiff-deutschland.de/an-bord/hochzeiten/ ) For the district Bremen-Mitte, please arrange the date for the marriage directly with the external wedding venue (contact details: see above); for the district Bremen-Nord with the registry office Bremen-Nord. Please note that an appointment must be made in advance with the respective registry office for the registration of the marriage. Witnesses to the marriage are no longer mandatory under German law, but can still be involved.
