Asylum procedure and residence permit Unfortunately this specification of service has not yet been completely translated.

For the duration of the asylum procedure, the asylum seeker receives a residence permit. This is issued for the first time by the BAMF with a validity of three months and is continuously extended by the Migration Office until the asylum procedure is concluded. (The residence permit does not fulfil the legal character of a residence title. It merely certifies a temporary stay during the asylum procedure). The residence permit contains conditions for taking up residence and for permission to work and study, these are binding. Travel abroad is not possible with the residence permit.

To extend your residence permit, if you are still living in the initial reception centre in Lindenstraße or in a temporary residence, hand it in to the management of the residence before its expiry date. The dormitory will forward the residence permit to the Migration Office for extension and you will receive it back within 1-2 days after extension. If the residence permit has been extended by the Migration Office, you will receive a new residence permit from the Migration Office when the old one expires or a date for the issue of a residence permit when your asylum application has been recognized by the BAMF. If you are no longer living in a hostel and your residence permit expires in one week and you have not yet received any mail from the Migration Office, please send us an e-mail to mailto:ref30@migrationsamt.bremen.de.
