Residence permit for the purpose of gainful employment Extension for the purpose of employment inanimate from a qualification as a skilled worker

You can have your residence permit extended before the end of your period of validity, irrespective of your qualification as a professional, if you wish to continue working in Germany.

The residence permit for the pursuit of employment, irrespective of the qualification as a professional, is a temporary residence permit. You can apply for an extension of your residence permit if your employment is to continue beyond the period of validity of your residence permit.

Apply to the immigration authority responsible for your residence no later than eight weeks before the expiry of the time limit.

The conditions for the renewal of the residence permit shall apply as for the grant. In particular, you should be able to submit an employment contract or a specific job offer.

If you were obliged to participate in an integration course when you first issued your residence permit, this will be taken into account when renewing your residence permit. If you have not yet taken part in an integration course, the immigration authority may reject your application for renewal of your residence permit. If you have not yet completed the integration course, the residence permit will in principle only be extended for one year at a time until you successfully complete it or prove that your integration into social and social life has taken place elsewhere.

In the event of renewal, your residence permit will be limited again. The residence permit is renewed for the duration of the employment contract.

The residence permit cannot be renewed if this has already been excluded at the time of issue or the last extension.
