In Germany, the profession of childhood educator is regulated by the individual federal states. This means that you may only work in this profession in the state of Brandenburg if you have a formal right to use the professional title "State-approved childhood pedagogue"." In order to obtain this authorization, your foreign professional qualification must be recognized by the state of Brandenburg. This is done on request to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. After the application has been submitted, the equivalence of your foreign professional qualification will first be checked. This means that it is checked whether your training corresponds to the course of study Education and Upbringing in Childhood in Brandenburg. The determination of equivalence is in turn a prerequisite for the granting of state recognition. If your foreign professional qualification is equivalent, the other requirements for state recognition (language skills, personal and health suitability) are then examined. An application can be submitted by anyone who is qualified to work as a childhood educator in your country of origin. It does not matter what nationality you have or in which country you obtained your qualification. An application can also be made from abroad. However, they must have the intention and, if necessary, document to become active in Brandenburg.

To assess your qualification (assessment of equivalence), the following documents are required: a tabular list in which you document your completed training and professional experience (in German); proof of identity (e.g. passport or identity card); Proof of foreign professional qualifications (proof of the foreign degree including the entire certificate; the certificate should document completed subjects and the scope of the internship in days; Submission of the Diploma Supplement); evidence of relevant professional experience and other evidence relevant to the profession (e.g. certificates of further training); a certificate of eligibility to work in the profession of the state in which you completed your education; a statement as to whether and to which body an application for a declaration of equivalence has already been submitted; a decision issued by another country, if any The documents relating to numbers 2 to 6 must be submitted in an officially certified copy and as translations in German. Preconditions

Your foreign qualification corresponds to the degree in Education and Upbringing in Brandenburg, including an integrated practical training of 20 weeks. 2. You are personally and health-looking suitable to work in the profession. 3. You have knowledge of the German language required for this profession.
You apply to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the State of Brandenburg as the competent authority for the granting of state recognition. The granting of State recognition presupposes the determination of equivalence. This means that your qualification is checked first, then the other requirements for state recognition. 1. You submit a written application including all necessary documents and send it to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the State of Brandenburg 2. It will be checked within one month whether your documents have been submitted in full. If this is not the case, you will be asked in writing to submit the relevant documents by post. 3. If the documents are complete, your foreign education will be checked for equivalence. This means checking whether your training corresponds to the course of study Education and Upbringing in Childhood in Brandenburg. The test provides for the following steps: a) Examination of your foreign education regarding: Overlaps or differences in training content Duration of training Eligibility to work in this profession in the state where you completed your education b) Examination of your previous professional activity (for example, on the basis of your workbook or your job references) It is checked whether and which professional experience (abroad/in Germany) you have in relevant fields of work of the childhood pedagogue. 4. Thereafter, other requirements are checked (language skills, personal and health suitability). The following results are possible and will be communicated to you in writing in a notification: 1. Determination of equivalence and recognition If there are no significant differences between your foreign education and the German education (education and upbringing course in Brandenburg), equivalence will be certified. If you also prove your personal and health suitability as well as the required language skills (language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), you will receive state recognition. For the granting of state recognition, an administrative fee of 65, - EUR will be charged, this will be communicated to you in writing in a fee notice. After payment of the administrative fee, you will be sent a certificate of state recognition. This entitles you to use the professional title "State-approved childhood educator"./ "State-approved childhood educator". 2. Identification of significant differences If there are significant differences between your foreign education and the German education (education and upbringing course in Brandenburg), it will be examined whether you can possibly compensate for these differences with your previous relevant professional experience or further education. If this is not the case, you can compensate for the identified differences by completing an adaptation course or taking an aptitude test. The content of an adaptation period or an aptitude test shall be determined individually by the competent authority. Adaptation course: In the state of Brandenburg, there are no standardized adaptation courses, but individually tailored compensation options. For example, it is possible to complete parts of your studies, complete guided internships or be a guest auditor. The duration of the adaptation period depends on the individual case. It shall last a maximum of two years. Aptitude test: An aptitude test is an examination in which your qualification for the profession of childhood educator is tested. An aptitude test is not a new final examination. The aptitude test relates only to the significant differences identified. You have the choice whether you want to complete an adaptation course or an aptitude test. To complete a compensatory measure, knowledge of German at language level B2 is also required. As a rule, you must provide appropriate proof before starting a compensatory measure. If you successfully complete the compensatory measure and submit the evidence in writing to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the equivalence between your foreign training and the education and training course in childhood in Brandenburg will be certified in writing. If you also prove your personal and health suitability as well as the required language skills, you will receive state recognition. For the granting of state recognition, an administrative fee of 65, - EUR will be charged, this will be communicated to you in writing in a fee notice.
