Permission to use the job title Dietitian / Dietitian Granted

You can apply for permission to use the professional title dietician at the State Office for Occupational Safety, Consumer Protection and Health (LAVG).

The activity as a dietician in Germany is regulated by precise regulations. This means that in order for you to be able to work as a dietician in Germany, you need a state permit. With this permission, you are allowed to use the job title "dietician" and work in the profession.

Permission to use the professional title "dietician" or "dietician" is required to practice the said profession. It must be applied for. Permission is granted if you

  • have not been guilty of conduct resulting in unreliability for the exercise of the profession,
  • are suitable for practising the profession from a health point of view,
  • have passed the state examination for dieticians after 3 years of training,
  • have the necessary knowledge of the German language for the exercise of the professional activity.

Comparable training qualifications obtained outside Germany can be recognised as equivalent in accordance with § 2 (2) DiätAssG.

If you have a corresponding, completed training outside Germany, you may (in accordance with EU law) work as a service provider temporarily and occasionally without permission in accordance with § 1 DiätAssG in Germany. You must report this to the LAVG in advance.
