Passport Unfortunately this specification of service has not yet been completely translated.
The biometric passport includes an electronic chip containing the facial image and two fingerprints. Photo and fingerprints are only accessible to public authorities such as police and border guards. German nationals must carry a passport with them when crossing the border and show it on request. You can also enter many countries with a valid ID card instead of a passport. This is particularly true for the countries of the European Union (EU). Germans over the age of 16 are required to provide identification. You must complete it with a valid passport or identity card.
Detailed travel and security advice for all countries can be found in the online offer of the Foreign Office. There you will find out under "Entry requirements for German nationals", for which countries a passport is required or an identity card is sufficient.
