If you want to work as a lawyer, you need a license.
Prerequisites:
- You are qualified to hold the office of judge in accordance with the German Judges Act or
- You meet the requirements for admission in accordance with the Act on the Activities of European Lawyers in Germany of March 9, 2000 (BGBl. I p. 182) or
- You have passed the aptitude test in accordance with this Act.
Admission becomes effective with the delivery of a certificate issued by the Bar Association.
This may only be issued once the applicant has been
- is sworn in and
- has provided proof that professional liability insurance has been taken out or has submitted a provisional cover note.
Upon admission, the applicant becomes a member of the admitting bar association. After admission, the activity may be practiced under the professional title "Rechtsanwältin" or "Rechtsanwalt".
