If you move house, you must have the address on your ID card/electronic residence permit updated. In the case of an identity card or electronic residence permit, the change of address/residence is indicated by a sticker and the address is also changed on the ID chip.
Even if you move abroad, no longer have an address in Germany and your address abroad has not yet been determined, your ID card/electronic residence permit must be changed. The address sticker will then state that you no longer have an address in Germany.
If you re-register in person, the change of address will be made directly when you submit your application. If you change your address online, the new address is updated on the chip in your ID document via your smartphone and the address sticker is then sent to you. If you change your address in writing, you must then have your ID document changed in person at the Citizens' Office.
