The district health departments advise on and monitor the implementation and compliance with hygiene regulations in shared facilities, such as residential care facilities (formerly nursing and care homes), hospitals, outpatient surgical centers, day clinics, doctors' offices, dental practices, and practices of other human medical professions where invasive procedures are performed. This also applies to preventative care and rehabilitation facilities that provide medical care comparable to that of hospitals (patient transport services, emergency medical services, alternative practitioners, podiatrists, as well as, for example, daycare centers, communal accommodations, tattoo, piercing, and permanent makeup studios).
Infection control monitoring serves the purpose of preventing communicable diseases in humans, detecting infections early, and preventing their further spread. Components include infection control monitoring of medical facilities and community facilities.

Hints
The activities of the public health department include, among other things, advising facilities, regular routine monitoring, inspections based on complaints or special questions, and reviewing building plans.
The focus of infection control monitoring by the public health department is on providing advice.
The inspections are carried out on a random basis; in very rare cases, reports from citizens regarding hygiene deficiencies are the reason for an inspection.
The advice provided by the health department includes the design of the hygiene plan, the use of suitable disinfectants, but also the safe handling of medical devices from an infection control point of view.
