  • The collection of bulky waste can be carried out by fixed collection dates or collection on request.

  • You can hand in bulky waste in person at the acceptance options.

  • The tree felling permit is issued by the competent authority. This also clarifies what needs to be considered when felling trees.

  • House and property owners receive fee notices from the competent authority about the garbage fees to be paid by them.

The fee scale is intended to create effective incentives for prevention and recovery. Details on the calculation of fees can be found in the waste fee statute of the competent authority. Information shall also be provided by the competent authority or the waste disposal undertakings authorised by it.

  • Authorised users or owners of land must observe the following when felling trees or pruning trees or bushes

In the period from 01.03. to 30.09. of each year the so-called "summer felling ban" applies. Trees, bushes and other woods may not be cut, felled or cleared. A shape and maintenance cut (e.g. of a garden hedge) is permissible.

Important note: In Bremen and Bremerhaven a tree protection regulation applies. For all planned measures on protected trees, an application must be submitted to the nature conservation authorities.

  • Garden waste up to a maximum of 1 m³ per delivery can be dropped off at all recycling stations. Tree trunks and stumps over 10 cm are only accepted at the Blockland station. Garden waste over 1 m³ is subject to a fee and can only be disposed of at the Blockland recycling station.

    The fees there are:
    - for quantities over 1 m³ per additional cubic meter or part thereof, € 20 each

  • Ecologically and also legally, biowaste has no place in residual waste, because biowaste is a material. The people of Bremen have three ways to deal with their bio-waste:

    • to use an organic waste bin
    • to compost biowaste yourself
    • Take biowaste to a recycling station

The use of the organic waste bin is financed through the waste charge and does not involve any additional costs. The size of the bio bin depends on the volume of the residual waste bin. The organic waste bin is emptied every 14 days. The dates can be found in the Bremen waste calendar. Please place the bin in the street on the day before collection at the earliest from 18:00 hrs, but no later than 07:00 hrs on the day of collection.

If you have space in the garden, you can make compost yourself. The organic substances and nutrients are thus kept directly in the cycle. Practical tips for this are offered by environmental associations and also the Bremen consumer advice centre.

For those who do not want to use organic waste bins or self-composting, Bremen offers to accept organic waste at the recycling stations. This service is financed by the waste fee and can be used without further costs.

  • Paper and cardboard can be disposed of in the paper garbage can or bundled and placed by the road. The collection takes place every 14 days. Please refer to your Bremen waste calendar for the dates.

If you would like to use a paper garbage can, you can order one at any time. Tenants please contact the landlord. There is no additional charge for delivery and use of the garbage can.

Please place the paper garbage can or paper bundles out the day before collection at the earliest from 6:00 p.m., but no later than 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection.

  • The residual waste bins (60 - 240 litres) are removed every 14 days. The dates can be found in the Bremen waste calendar. The number of regularities included in the waste fee can be found in the fee table. Please place the bin on the street at the earliest from 18:00 hrs on the day before collection, but no later than 06:00 hrs on the day of collection.

Every property in Bremen must be equipped with a sufficiently large residual waste bin. A retention volume of 15 litres per person per week is prescribed. A common use of waste containers, also across properties, is possible.

  • The Bremer Stadtreinigung (DBS) offers all private households the opportunity to have bulky waste collected free of charge once a calendar year. This service is included in the waste fee. Further collections are possible for a fee of 71.00 euros per collection.

Each household must place a separate order. If you want to use the collection service together with your neighbor, each party must place a separate order.
