Stolen or lost license plates must be replaced as soon as possible. Your vehicle will then be issued with a new license plate combination to prevent misuse. The old license plate will also be put on the wanted list and blocked for 10 years.

Preconditions
- Your vehicle is registered in Hamburg.
- It has a valid general inspection (HU).
Hints
- Affidavit in case of loss: Typically, you must provide a sworn statement (subject to a fee). You must appear in person at the appointment for this. Therefore, representation by power of attorney is not possible in the event of a lost license plate.
- Reporting theft: If your license plates have been stolen, you must first file a report with the police and present it at your appointment at the LBV.
The fees range from EUR 26.60 to EUR 70.00. In addition, there are costs for stamping new plates. A fee of EUR 30.70 may also be charged for the affidavit. The exact fee amount can only be determined after reviewing all the documents. The fee amount is based on the Fee Schedule for Measures in Road Traffic (GebOSt).

- Then book "Application for new license plates after theft or loss"
- You will receive an email. Confirm your reservation using the link in the email.
- Bring all necessary documents and the appointment confirmation with you to your appointment at the LBV.
- Scan the QR code on your appointment confirmation using the scanner on site.
- Take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called by your call number.
- Your request is being processed.
