If you move out of your apartment and do not move to another apartment in Germany or do not live in Germany for more than 1 year, you must deregister.
If you no longer have a permanent residence or give up a secondary residence without replacement, you must deregister with your registration authority.
If you move within Germany, you do not have to deregister. It is sufficient to register with the registration authority at your new place of residence.
If you are under 16 years of age, you must be deregistered by the person whose home you are moving out of.
From the age of 16, you can unsubscribe without the consent of your legal guardian.
You will receive an official confirmation of your deregistration from your apartment.

Hints
As a landlord, you can have people who no longer live in your property deregistered by the relevant authority. The authority will verify the actual living situation before deregistering them.
The deregistration of deceased persons is arranged by the registry office.
If you deregister your secondary residence in Hamburg, you must also deregister it from the secondary residence tax. A secondary residence in Hamburg can also be deregistered at your primary residence. A secondary residence located elsewhere can be deregistered in Hamburg, provided the primary residence is registered in Hamburg.
A person who is not registered in Hamburg can obtain a registration certificate stating their move-out date from their Hamburg residence. Cost: 16 euros.
