Are you self-employed as an artist or journalist and insured through the Artists' Social Insurance Fund (Künstlersozialkasse) or eligible for subsidies? If so, you must report your estimated income from your self-employed artistic or journalistic activities once a year.

This information always refers to the coming year and serves as the basis for calculating monthly contributions or subsidies.

When submitting your income estimate, please note the following:

To determine your projected earned income, take into account both your experience with profits and losses from previous years and your future order volume.
Always enter your estimated income in whole euro amounts.
If you expect a loss , enter 0 EUR as your projected earned income .

If you do not submit your income estimate on time, you risk jeopardizing your insurance status or your entitlement to subsidies. Furthermore, failing to submit the income estimate on time constitutes an administrative offense that may result in a fine.

Procedure

You will receive a notice by mail from the Artists' Social Insurance Fund asking you to submit your income report. You can do this either online or by mail.

Online Submission:

Go to the online form on the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de. This will guide you step by step through the required information, which you can enter electronically.
Note: To log in to the online form, you’ll need a valid ELSTER certificate. Alternatively, you can use your electronic ID.
It takes about 10 minutes to complete the online application.
First, enter your personal information, including your insurance number. Youcan find this in the upper right corner of letters from the Artists’ Social Insurance Fund.
On the next page, you’ll first see some general information.
Next, enter your estimated annual income from work.
If the artistic or journalistic field in which you earn your primary income has changed, please also select your new field of activity.

Notification by mail:

Please fill out the form for reporting your estimated annual earned income in its entirety.
If you no longer have the response form, please use the PDF form “Form for Reporting Estimated Annual Earnings” available on the Artists’ Social Insurance Fund website. An informal notification is also acceptable.
Be sure to follow all instructions sent to you along with the request.
Sign the form.
Please do not include any additional information on the form.
Send the form to the Artists’ Social Security Fund.
You will not receive a confirmation of receipt for your submission.

If there are any questions, the Artists’ Social Security Fund will contact you by mail.

Deadlines

Estimated income from employment for the following calendar year must be reported by December 1 of each year.

1 day until 2 weeks
The information you have submitted will be saved immediately. You will receive a notice regarding your (new) monthly premium in time for the January premium due date. This notice will also include the estimated annual earned income used as the basis for the calculation.
