The Wohnberechtigungsschein (WBS) certifies that you are entitled to rent social housing. Social housing is state-subsidized housing that is intended for people on low incomes. The Wohnberechtigungsschein ensures that these apartments are allocated to households that do not exceed certain income limits.
A certificate of eligibility for housing is issued for
- moving into a subsidized rental apartment
- for applying for subsidies for an owner-occupied property
Whether a certificate of eligibility for housing can be issued and what size of apartment may be occupied depends on 2 factors:
- Number of household members to be taken into account
- Amount of total income
- The total income is the sum of the annual incomes of the household members to be taken into account minus certain exemptions and deductions.
