If you take possession of weapons or ammunition after the death of the gun owner, you must report this to the competent authority immediately. As an heir, legatee and beneficiary of a condition, you legally acquire and possess the weapon, even if a weapons permit has not yet been granted. However, you must apply for permission in due time. You will receive permission if the testator was the entitled owner and you are reliable and personally suitable. You don't need to be knowledgeable. In principle, inherited weapons subject to authorisation must be secured with a blocking system. A security by a blocking system is not required if, for example, you are the authorized owner or authorized owner of a firearm subject to authorization as a hunter or sports shooter. If there is no state-of-the-art blocking system for the hereditary weapon, you must apply for an exemption from the obligation to block.
