The hunting license is issued by the lower hunting authority if the following conditions are met at the time of application:
- Passed hunting examination. The exact regulation of the hunting examination in Germany is the responsibility of the federal states. The hunting examination concludes with a complex, three-part state examination.
- Proof of hunting liability insurance (at least €50,000 for property damage and at least €500,000 for personal injury)
- Personal reliability in accordance with the Weapons Act, which requires, among other things, a clean criminal record
- Minimum age of 18 years. At the age of 16 at the earliest, the youth hunting license, which is subject to restrictions, can be issued by the lower hunting authority.
- Hunting licenses are also available for falconers and foreign nationals.
