The hunting license is issued by the lower hunting authority if the following conditions are met at the time of application:

Passed hunting examination. The exact regulation of the hunting examination in Germany is the responsibility of the federal states. The hunting examination concludes with a complex, three-part state examination.
Proof of hunting liability insurance (at least €50,000 for property damage and at least €500,000 for personal injury)
Personal reliability in accordance with the Weapons Act, which requires, among other things, a clean criminal record
Minimum age of 18 years. At the age of 16 at the earliest, the youth hunting license, which is subject to restrictions, can be issued by the lower hunting authority.
Hunting licenses are also available for falconers and foreign nationals.

Preconditions

To hunt, you must have passed a hunting examination, have hunting liability insurance and be personally and physically fit.

Hints

At the same time as a new hunting license is issued, paid hunting permits and leased hunting district areas must also be submitted for registration.

In justified individual cases, the lower hunting authority may require the submission of an official or specialist medical report on mental and physical aptitude in accordance with Section 17 (6) of the Federal Hunting Act.

Administration fee: 10.00 - 80.00 EUR per hunting year depending on the type and duration of the hunting license

Hunting tax: EUR 5.00 - 25.00 depending on the type of hunting license.

Procedures for issuing youth hunting licenses, falconry hunting licenses and hunting licenses for foreigners sometimes require additional documents, which are requested from the applicant by the lower hunting authority in individual cases.

Procedure

Application for a hunting license in writing to the lower hunting authority where the hunter has his or her main residence.

Deadlines

Application in good time before expiry of the existing hunting license. Regularly valid from the start of the hunting year on April 1st of the year until March 31st of the following year or two or three years later. Issuance possible from the date of application in the current hunting year at the earliest.
