For the territory of the state of Lower Saxony, interpreters are generally sworn in and translators are authorised for voice transmission for judicial, official and notarial purposes. The work of interpreters includes oral and written transmission, while translators' activities include only the written translation of a language.
A register of sworn interpreters and authorised translators is kept that can be consulted by the courts and authorities of Lower Saxony as well as by notaries with their registered office in Lower Saxony.
