Preconditions
You must be at least 12 years old to apply for a vacation fishing license. If you are 14 years old and do not have a fishing license, you must apply for a vacation fishing license in order to fish in Schleswig-Holstein.
Hints
If you want to fish in inland waters and in certain coastal waters that are subject to an independent fishing right (Eider, Schlei, Lübeck Bay), you also need a permit under private law from the respective fishing right holder. In the other coastal waters of Schleswig-Holstein, on the other hand, you may fish freely if you have a fishing license or vacation fishing license.
Some fishing rights holders in Schleswig-Holstein do not recognize the vacation fishing licence. This is not legally objectionable and is subject to the discretion of the rights holder. In these cases, you may not receive a permit for the water in question, even though you have a valid vacation fishing license. It is therefore essential that you find out whether you can obtain a permit for the desired water before purchasing the vacation fishing license.

Application to the authority:
- You submit an application for a vacation fishing license on site.
- You will need proof of identity for this (e.g. identity card).
- After paying the fishing tax and the administrative fee, the digital vacation fishing license is immediately printed out and handed over at the local regulatory authority and can also be sent by email on request.
Application via an online service:
- You log into your service account on the state's service portal.
- If you have not yet opened a service account, please create a free service account first.
- Select the "Issue or extend vacation fishing license" service and enter the required data.
- After paying the fishing tax and the administration fee in the online service, the digital vacation fishing license will be sent to your service account mailbox.

You are exempt from the fishing license requirement for a maximum of 28 consecutive days (vacation fishing license). This exemption can be granted up to twice in one calendar year.
