- a valid identity card or passport with current proof of registration of the vehicle owner
- the registration certificate Part I and II (vehicle registration document and vehicle title) or a deregistration certificate
- the electronic insurance confirmation as an eVB code (available from the car insurance company)
- the existing license plates, if a change of registration is desired
- A declaration of consent from all legal guardians in the case of persons who are not fully legally competent.
- Valid inspection certificate of the main inspection (HU), if an HU was already required for the first time, and, if applicable, proof of the safety inspection and emissions test carried out.
- A SEPA combined mandate in its original form for the collection of vehicle tax via direct debit (form can be found under Services and Links)
- If the tax is not to be paid by the owner himself, but by a so-called willing third party, a copy of the identification document of the willing third party is required.

Preconditions

- For companies: Your place of business or the location of the company’s or trader’s branch is in Hamburg.
- You must not have vehicle tax debts of EUR 5 or more. Late payment penalties, interest, and fines are also taken into account when calculating the amount.
Hints
The vehicle registration can only be changed once you have already changed your place of residence.
You may keep your license plate. Re-registration is voluntary.
If multiple vehicles are affected, the applications can also be submitted at the counter for commercial customers at the locations. Prior contact via the email address kfz-zulassung@lbv.hamburg.de is required to coordinate the further procedure.
If the keeper and owner of the vehicle are not the same person (as is the case with leased vehicles), the LBV must be informed in whose name the vehicle is to be registered.
The fees range between EUR 23.60 and EUR 60.00.
