If you want to drive your new or used vehicle on public roads, you need a registration.Would you like a specific combination of letters or numbers for your license plate, for example an abbreviation of your name the abbreviation of your company, a date of birth or wedding date or would you like an "old license plate" for your vehicle that is available again in your district together with a specific identification number? You can apply for a license plate for a fee or reserve one in advance. If you would like to use the license plate number of your deregistered vehicle again later in the same administrative district, you can have the identification number reserved for a certain period of time for a fee and apply again in connection with the re-registration or the registration of another vehicle. A reservation of the desired registration number expires if you move a deregistered vehicle. Please contact the registration authority beforehand. Attention: Subsequent changes to a license plate combination allocated to a vehicle are only possible for an additional fee. A license plate reserved in another registration district cannot be taken to the new registration district when moving. Note:The registration authorities will try to comply with your wishes. However, you have no legal entitlement to a license plate of your choice.To register an electrically powered vehicle, you must apply for an e-license plate at your local vehicle registration office.If you buy or take over a vehicle that is already registered, you must have it re-registered in your name immediately and, if necessary, apply for a new license plate.
